Clarity grades as generally accepted within the diamond industry have very specific meaning and in some cases can make a large difference
in the cost of a diamond. We are very conservative and strict with our grading. We use the following
grades, as defined by the Gemological Institute of America :
IF = internally flawless
VVS1 and VVS2 = very very slight imperfection grade 1 and 2 ( only a trained professional with a 10 power corrected loupe
will see any characteristic at all)
VS1 and VS2 = very slight imperfection grade 1 and 2 ( Still very hard to find characteristics under 10 power corrected
loupe)
SI1 and SI2 = slight imperfection grade 1 and 2
( Internal imperfections easily seen with a 10 power corrected loupe,
however the diamond is eye clean in Diamonds under 2 carats)
SI3* = This is legally and morally an I1 grade (imperfect grade 1, that is very hard to see or only a trained eye will
spot any characteristic to the naked eye ). This is a marketing grade given to some diamonds that are not strict eye clean but better
than "just" I1. As a rule we don't offer these in our database as we feel they are borderline fine jewelry. However, on request, we will
find a diamond of this quality.
I1, I2, I3 = are all grades where characteristics are visible to the naked unaided eye, each grade showing more
imperfections. I2 and I3 especially are poor quality diamonds. We do not offer these for sale as a rule.
